CORONA VIRUS SE GROOTSTE GEVAAR IS
DIE PANIEK WAT GESAAI WORD?
Ek het reeds in my preek van die afgelope Sondag (Op. 14:6-13, sien hier) genoem ons moet nie hierdie virus onderspeel nie … maar ook nie oorspeel nie.
Gevaar is, ons as gelowiges is maar baiemaal oorgelewer aan ‘hulle sê’ en wat die ‘eksperts sê’ oor hierdie sake waarbinne ons die Here en ons naaste dien en liefhê midde die wêreld. Dit vra vir baie wysheid in verantwoordelike besluitnemings wat mense se lewens raak.
Ons as gesin en ons gemeente is ook besig om die nodige maatreëls te tref binne die huidige krisissituasie, ongeag of mens sekerheid het oor al die ‘feite’ daarbuite, en hoe erg die situasie werklik is … of nie is nie.
Terwyl ons daarmee besig is, is dit ook goed om te luister na verskillende weergawes oor die saak, want mens moet vrae vra nie net oor die gesondheidsaspek en hoe dit ons lewens raak nie, maar ook die politieke, sosiale en maatskapplike reaksies daarop wêreldwyd, soos bv.
Is baie (definitief nie almal nie!) van die groeiende beperkende maatreëls wat nou ingestel word juis goed vir ons kerke en samelewings, beide uit ‘n mediese en sosiale oogpunt, en, gaan die hantering van die virus krisis self, nie dalk nog meer lewens in gevaar stel en opeis as die virus self nie?
Mag die Here ons wysheid gee om hierdie sake te hanteer as gelowiges en gemeentes.
Hier is ‘n paar artikels wat mens verder aan die dink sit:
1. Israel virologist urges world leaders to calm public, slams ‘unnecessary panic’
“A leading Israeli virologist on Sunday urged world leaders to calm their citizens about the coronavirus pandemic, saying people were being whipped into unnecessary panic.”
2. The Coronavirus Hoax
“The martial law they dream about will leave people hunkered down inside their homes instead of going outdoors or to the beach where the sunshine and fresh air would help boost immunity. The panic produced by these fearmongers is likely helping spread the disease, as massive crowds rush into Walmart and Costco for that last roll of toilet paper…..
People should ask themselves whether this coronavirus “pandemic” could be a big hoax, with the actual danger of the disease massively exaggerated by those who seek to profit – financially or politically – from the ensuing panic.
That is not to say the disease is harmless. Without question people will die from coronavirus. Those in vulnerable categories should take precautions to limit their risk of exposure. But we have seen this movie before. Government over-hypes a threat as an excuse to grab more of our freedoms. When the “threat” is over, however, they never give us our freedoms back.”

3. Today’s Virus Scare is not a sign of the end or anything near a true Pandemic
“None of these examples means that we should dismiss or minimize what is happening in our day. The Bible deals with possible contagious diseases in Leviticus 13-14. Consider the following advice from Martin Luther during the Black Plague:
‘I shall ask God mercifully to protect us. Then I shall fumigate, help purify the air, administer medicine and take it. I shall avoid places and persons where my presence is not needed in order not to become contaminated and thus perchance inflict and pollute others and so cause their death as a result of my negligence. If God should wish to take me, he will surely find me and I have done what he has expected of me and so I am not responsible for either my own death or the death of others. If my neighbor needs me however I shall not avoid place or person but will go freely as stated above. See this as such a God-fearing faith because it is neither brash nor foolhardy and does not tempt God.’
There are those who will want to use this latest “crisis” for political gain. In fact, it’s already happening. Beware of the Savior State! Let’s not forget that the political plague of Communism in the 20th century left behind 100 million dead.
At the same time, all necessary precautions should be taken but without panic. Some good things may come out of these events.”
4. Koronavirus: 10 redes om nie paniekerig te wees nie
“Ons het beslis ‘n pandemie van vrees. Die hele planeet is in ‘n greep van die koronavirus. Dit is goed en reg dat daar groot kommer en massabeplanning gedoen word vir die ergste wat kan gebeur. En die gevolge skuif natuurik van die wêrkgesondheidsfeer na sake en politiek. Dit is egter ook goed en reg dat ons nie paniekerig hoef te wees nie. Dit sal verkeerd wees om te sê daar is goeie nuus uit Covid-19, maar daar is tog ‘n rede vir optimisme; redes om te dienk dat daar maniere is om die virus te beheer en te oorwin. En lesse wat ons vir die toekoms kan leer.”
