1. Dr. Joe Pipa en GPTS in Suid-Afrika

Wycliffe & the Lollards

Laasjaar Maart was dr. Pipa se sprekerstoer hier in Suid-Afrika. Deur hierdie geleentheid waarin ons baie van dr. Pipa kon leer, is verskillende kontakte opgebou tussen GPTS en Suid-Afrika.  Een van hierdie kontakte het dit daartoe gelei dat dr. Pipa komende Augustus by John Wycliffe Theological College gaan klas gee komende Augustus.  Hy gaan begin met ‘n lesing, “Introduction to Reformed Theology“.

2.  Nucklear Physicist (dr. Jim Myson) on ministry tour in South Africa

KZN Ministry Tour

“Exposing Evolution’s Fatal Flaws” Dr Jim Mason in the Western Cape and Gauteng”

“Make use of this opportunity to ‘firm up your faith’ and hear from a Christian and experienced nuclear physicist why we should put our faith and trust in God’s infallible Word, the Bible, rather than in the fallible opinions of fallen man. Find out: Why this is vitally important to the church today. How to help others understand the importance of this issue too. Also get answers to: If there is a loving and all-powerful God, why all the death, pain and suffering in the world? Why traditional forms of evangelism are not as successful as they once were. Why so many think that science has somehow disproved the Bible.”

5. Jesus and the Church

“How many times does Jesus mention the church? I’ve asked that question in a number of forums (Reformed University Fellowship, Sunday school, Drug Court Bible Study, the pulpit, and so on), and have received answers ranging from thirty-six to six. Surprise is the typical response when I reveal that Jesus mentions the church, the ekklēsia, only twice.

Initially, this seems to confirm the bias of those who say they admire Jesus but have little regard for the church. The church, they say, is man’s invention. Jesus said little about the church. He didn’t intend to found a church. We’ve built an ecclesiastical mountain out of an exegetical molehill, they insist. We follow Jesus, they claim, but have discarded the millstone that the church has become around His message.

What should we say about this? Simply, that Jesus’ words about the church must be weighed, not merely counted. Essentially, Jesus says two things….”

6.  Boekresensie: Hughes Oliphant Old, Holy Communion: In the Piety of the Reformed Church.

(Powder Springs: Tolle Lege Press, 2013. Hardback. 919 pp. $39.95, by dr. John Fesko)

OldHolyCommunion93.jpg

“When I was in seminary I was introduced to what is perhaps the standard taxonomy of the different views of the Lord’s Supper: Zwingli’s memorialism, Luther’s consubstantiation, Calvin’s spiritual presence, and Roman Catholic transubstantiation. Every time that I have sat in on a licensure or ordination exams, I hear candidates rattle off these different views as if there are only four ways of looking at the Lord’s Supper. Rarely, if ever, do I hear questions that delve into related questions of how these different views shape the worship liturgies that attend them. I suspect that with the latest entry from Hughes Oliphant Old, things might change. Old is arguably the foremost authority on the history of Reformed worship, which began with his published doctoral dissertation, The Patristic Roots of Reformed Worship, continued through numerous essays and books, and most recently hit a pinnacle with his seven volume, The Reading and Preaching of the Scriptures in the Worship of the Christian Church. Old has put his pen to paper once again and produced a large volume on the Lord’s Supper in the Reformed church.”

7.  Gratis boek oor Evangelisasie

“Rev. Richard D. Phillips digs into the early chapters of the Gospel of John to discover principles you can use for Christian outreach that were modeled by witnesses for Jesus and by Jesus Himself. Phillips unfolds biblical principles for evangelism by examining the ministry of John the Baptist and the calling of the first of Jesus’ disciples. Then, through a brief study of the Lord’s encounter with the Pharisee Nicodemus, he presents us with a theology of the gospel. Finally, he focuses in on Jesus’ stirring encounter with the Samaritan woman to show exactly how Christ shared the good news.

Phillips’ clear and concise handling of these key stories will both motivate and instruct you in your witness on behalf of Christ. An appendix looks at the relationship between God’s sovereignty and evangelism.”
